With Dr. Abelson's help I Qualified for the Boston Marathon"
"Dr. Abelson, you are a magician! I came to see you the day before I headed to the States to run the Top of Utah Marathon in Logan a few weeks ago. My muscles on my left leg were so tight that it was affecting my walking and I was, consequently, very nervous about how they were going to affect my running! After almost a year of training and two failed attempts to qualify for the Boston Marathon, I was concerned to say the least.
After ten minutes of ART with you and your assistant, I was walking without any restiction or tightness. A couple of days later, I easily qualified for the first time for the prestigious marathon in Boston! Thank you so much for all your help and top-notch professional treatments. I couldn't have done it without you!"

Dr. Abelson's Book Helped to Resolve my Achilles Tendon Injury
"Dr. Abelson helped me relieve my lower back pain, and taught me the stretches that I needed to do to strengthen and heal. I was impressed with the Active Release Technique that Dr. Abelson used and the fact that he was a runner who had experienced a lot of the same injuries as I and so could help me based on experience and not just from reading a book. I was also impressed that he gave me the means to heal instead of asking me to return again and again. When "Release Your Pain" came out, I was curious and bought it.

"Release Your Pain" was immediately easy to access
I started by looking up back pain and found I had read the better part of the chapter while I was standing there simply because the information and diagrams were so useful and relevant. The various blend of stories, stretches, and explanations kept me engaged and interested. I ended up reading sections that didn't apply to me just because they were so interesting in a health and fitness perspective.
I had just started the winter with a new love: skate skiing. It was in the first three weeks of my new sport that I started to have pain in my achilles tendon, definately as a result of the new sport's particular foot angles. I was a bit scared since I have heard that Achilles injuries are notoriously disabling and long-lasting, so I grabbed Dr. Abelson's book and read up on it.
By gently including the recommended stretches into my daily routine I was able to resolve the pain and can now report skiing 5 evenings a week with NO pain." Jerry Auld (2004)

Talk about the Ultimate Relief!
I was in a lot of pain for over a year because of a very tight muscle knot that was pushing and pressing against a nerve in my back. I went for massages one or two times a month to relieve the pain, but instead of helping, it would tighten the knot, and worsen the pain.
I finally invested in Active Release. WOW!!! Talk about the ultimate relief. Highly recommend it!!!! Worth every penny!

Note: Release Your Pain does not teach you how to do ART. For that, you need to take a detailed and comprehensive set of courses provided by Dr. Michael Leahy! www.activerelease.com You must already be a qualified medical practitioner to practice Active Release Techniques!
So... Just What is Active Release Techniques® or ART?
You have probably heard about Active Release Techniques. And wondered, "What is that? Can it help me? And how does it work? "
ART is a patented, state-of-the-art, non-invasive, soft tissue treatment process that both locates, and breaks down, the scar tissue and adhesions which cause pain, stiffness, weakness, numbness, and physical dysfunctions associated with repetitive strain injuries and a broad range of soft-tissue injuries. ART practitioners have a strong scientific foundation in anatomy, and physiology.
In addition, ART Practitioners combine ART with their years of clinical experience to effectively resolve and treat soft-tissue injuries.

Whimpering in Pain… to…. Agile and Relieved after ART!
I heard of Dr. Abelson and Kinetic Health from a friend who had been referred to him by their family doctor. For six days I had been struggling with a particularly painful bout of Sciatica. Anti-inflammatories, pain meds, ice paks, stretching….nothing even touched the pain I was experiencing down my entire left leg and into my foot.
I cannot express the degree of relief I felt after taking my painful, whimpering body to see Dr. Abelson for my first treatment of ART. I had a total of six treatments, and each one brought incredible relief. By the end of my treatments, I felt more limber and agile than I had in months, even in years. Talk about getting to the source of the problem. I cannot thank Dr. Abelson enough…and you know the phrase… “You saved my life!”… Thank you so much!

Amazing Results
Chronic hip pain has been a way of life for me for over 40 years. A childhood bone disease left me with limited mobility and stabbing pain that would "sneak attack" in certain positions and movements.
I have walked cautiously for my entire life, accepting a limited range of motion as being my norm. Having come to Calgary for a couple of weeks, I was referred to Dr. Abelson for Active Release treatments as my pain was particularly bad that week.
In just TWO visits, I have experienced AMAZING RESULTS!!! I have range of motion without pain. I have never experienced that with this leg before. The relief is overwhelming! And the delight I feel, UNDESCRIBABLE, in just two visits! Words cannot express my gratitude.

Read what Binder Kalar had to say about Active Release Techniques and the exercises in "Release Your Pain"!
When I came here, I was in really bad pain. The hip, knee, and ankle were really bad. I couldn't put much weight on it. Since I started receiving Active Release Treatments with Dr. Abelson, the pain in my hip is gone, the pain in my ankle is gone, and I have very little pain in my knee. I am sure the pain in my knee will soon be gone too! My head and neck have improved, and I don't need Tylenol anymore. I would recommend this treatment to anyone!

From Chapter on Shoulder Injuries: Release Your Pain
|
Strengthening the External Rotators of the Shoulder
This exercise develops shoulder strength and coordination, and is important for developing upper body structural balance in the shoulder joint.
- Sit on the floor, with the strong hand resting on the ground, and the opposite knee bent.
- Pick up the weight with your affected arm and prop this arm on the raised knee. Your arm should be bent at the elbow at 90 degrees, pointing up to the ceiling.
- Keep your arm at 90 degrees and lower it to a count of 3 slowly towards the ground until the forearm is parallel to the ground.
- Rotate back to the starting position - without pausing. Raise to a count of 2.
- Repeat this exercise 12 to 20 times - depending on your strength. If the weight is correct, you should be able to execute at least 12 repetitions of these exercises, and feel fatigue within 12 to 20 repetitions.
- Repeat this exercise for your strong side – for exactly the same number of repetitions. Do not exceed this number since you are attempting to balance the two sides of your body.
- Perform 1 to 3 sets each time.

From Injuries to the Achilles Tendon: Release Your Pain
|
Single Leg Hamstring Stretch
This exercise stretches and increases the flexibility of the gluteal fold, hamstrings, and calf muscles of the affected leg.
- Lie on your back.
- With both hands, reach down and clasp your leg just above the knee.
- Lift the leg up towards the ceiling and pull the leg towards your chest, keeping the leg straight throughout the motion.
- Only stretch to the point where you feel a light tension on the back of your leg. Do not overstretch.
- You may feel the tension in the upper or lower portion of the leg.
- Normal range of motion is about 80 to 90 degrees as measured from the floor.
- Hold the stretch for 30 seconds and repeat it for the other side.

From Back Pain: Release Your Pain
|
Beginner’s Front Bridge – Knee Bent
This exercise stabilizes the pelvis and strengthens the posterior chain of muscles in the back (gluteals, hamstrings, erector spinae, multifidus, and deep abdominal muscles). This exercise also trains the multifidus in the pelvis to avoid unnecessary rotation during loading.
Use this exercise to strengthen your core and to power all the actions of your body.
All the routines in this book integrate the core into the exercise program…since the core forms a critical component of any kinetic chain.
